Brayden's 1st Real Big Owwie :(

When I first woke up this morning, at about 5:30 am, the wind was HOWLING. The power was flickering on and off, my clock read 12:05, that is until it turned off completely. The wind was so loud that I actually considered just getting up instead of trying to go back to sleep. Then, all of the sudden, I hear Brayden crying, look at my phone, and its 10:20! Well that's great, except the fact that I'm supposed to be meeting friends for lunch at 11. Yikes.

I change Brayden, get him dressed, decide to bypass the shower until this afternoon and begin to attempt to make myself look presentable. I'm putting some make-up on and fixing my hair. Brayden is playing at my feet. I was in such a rush to get ready that I wasn't paying much attention to what he was doing, I thought he was playing with a lotion bottle - - until I heard him cry. I looked down and the first thing I see is blood on his right cheek, then his pouty lip, and finally his right pointer finger pouring blood. PANIC! What the heck just happened?! I honestly don't even remember exactly what went through my mind. The first thing I realized was that his face was NOT bleeding (Thank God) and the blood on his cheek was from him wiping his face with his bleeding finger.

THE CULPRIT:

THE INJURY:

His finger was bleeding so much so fast that no matter what I tried, I could not wipe the blood off long enough to see how deep the cut was. I ripped off an enormous wad of toilet paper and wrapped it around his finger and squeezed. Within a few minutes, the toilet paper was soaked. I tried again, probably about 4 different times. Finally I really didn't know what to do, it had been about 20 minutes and his finger was still gushing blood. My mom ended up coming over and we took him to Urgent Care where we waited patiently for TWO hours. Yes, TWO HOURS. By the time we got called back, his finger was not really bleeding anymore. The nurse glued down the skin, and wrapped his finger in gauze tape and sent us on our way. Whew! First medical "emergency" -- Check.

Brayden's 1st Christmas & First Project 365 Post

Brayden's first Christmas :) Man, that kid is spoiled! Alright, we like to refer to it has "extremely loved." He got so many new toys I honestly don't know where to put them all. I think some of them are going in the closet and I will rotate them weekly or something to that effect because sometimes he seems overwhelmed; like he doesn't know what to play with next because there's too many choices! Jesse's parents got him a new Leapfrog "table" activity center, which he LOVES. He got a big dumptruck, a "laptop", a train, a car that he can ride on, and Santa brought him a walker that will eventually turn into a scooter!

All of the Christmas clutter is getting to me today. Getting to me to the point of over-stimulation. So, instead of getting off my booty and doing something about it, I've sat and stared at it trying to decide where to start. Basically all I've accomplished today is doing the dishes. Normally this would bother me, but considering it's Christmas break I'm not too concerned. But, I do have a pretty long list of things to get done before Christmas break is over in three weeks. I'll get started on that tomorrow.

Project 365
Well, I didn't get the camera for Christmas, but I got an iPad instead so it all balanced out. I'll either buy the camera at the end of January, or maybe I'll get that for my birthday. Here's the first week's worth of Project 365:

Project 365

I really do hope I can start blogging here more. I want to be able to look back and remember each day as time passes by. Brayden is growing so incredibly fast and sometimes I look back and feel like weeks have slipped out from under me. Honestly time seems to move SO much quicker since Brayden was born. He will be a whole YEAR old in just a month and a half. How that for crazy?! I read about a challenge over on FITori's facebook called Project 365. I think I'm up for the challenge. It's a possibility that I'll be getting a new [manual!!!] camera for Christmas, and if not, it's definitely something I'm saving up for on my own.

I've wanted to learn to shoot manual for quite some time and I'm tired of procrastinating (I'm just too good at it.. lol). So, once I am gifted, or save up enough money to buy the Canon Rebel I will be teaching myself how to use it :) But, until then I still have my Sony Cybershot point-and-shoot that I'll be using. Even though it's not high tech, Project 365 is about more than learning photography for me. It's about documenting a time in my life that I'll never get back. Good and bad I want to be able to look at those pictures and remember the little things that often get lost in the pages of time. I want to look back and remember just how excited I was when I saw Brayden's first little tooth poking through, or when he finally figured out how to crawl- how happy he was that he was mobile. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Anyway, I actually started the challenge yesterday but since I don't know if I can promise myself to update daily quite yet, I think I'll try to upload 3 or 4 days worth of pictures at a time. It may end up being more often than that.. or maybe weekly, I'm not sure yet :)

Don't think you can take the Project 365 challege? Challenge yourself to take 2 pictures a week. It will be awesome to look back and be able to remember the details!

The Cost of Being Healthy

So today was the day. The day I decided I was going to stop complaining about all the negative in my life and actually do something about them. It's time for change. Okay, so actually it was yesterday, but today was when it all started. In this lame town, there is one; exactly ONE fitness center that offers childcare. ONE! That is it. My choices of which fitness center to join were gone, it didn't matter how much the joining fee was, how much the monthly fee was, because this was the only way I was going to be able to work out.

I made an appointment to tour the facility and discuss membership fees (how fancy). The facility is nice. I mean, its big, has lots of stuff. But really it's a building, with work out equipment, a basketball court, a locker room, and a lot of sweaty people... basically the same as any other fitness facility. Finally, the "monthly fee discussion"... I was not really thrilled about this and was planning on my stomach dropping when I heard the numbers. Joining fee: $50. Monthly fee: $50. WHAT! There goes my fitness goals, flying out the window. Oh but wait! You're a student? YES! You're between the ages of 18 and 29? YES! And we are doing a 50% off joining fee special this month. YES! All in all, it came down to $24.50 prorated for this month, and $30/month for the next year. Not too shabby. Definitely will be worth it when I start pumping out results. :) Oh, but one last thing... this whole daycare situation. Not only am I paying $30 a month to leave my sweat on these people's equipment, I'm paying an extra $4/hour for my son to crawl around in "Kyd's Court". Yeah... they can't even spell Kids. (haha) I guess that's the price you pay to be fit
